One hurt when Metra train strikes car near Woodstock

A Metra train collided with an unmanned vehicle near Woodstock early Saturday morning, injuring one person, a company spokesperson said.

Metra spokeswoman Meg Thomas Reil said the driver of the car was struck by debris from the crash but survived.

The accident occurred around 2:00 am on the Union Pacific Northwest Line on Lily Pond Road, south of McConnell Road. The train traveled from Chicago to Harvard.

The driver of the car was taken to the Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Thomas-Reile praised the driver for getting out of the car before the crash.

“First save yourself,” she said.

According to Thomas-Reile, passengers on the train got off and found another way to reach their destination.The train started moving again around 5:14 am.

Other details were not immediately available.
