New York – With the “once in a generation” storm officially turning into a bomb cyclone on the eve of Christmas Eve, vacation travel plans may have hit a dead end. Weather nightmares are causing travel troubles in nearly every part of the country.

A historic winter storm brought airports across the United States to a halt as winter warnings were issued from Oregon to Florida. Let’s not forget the dangerous Arctic blast that froze 150 million Americans to death from Montana to Maine. Power outages have spiked, with more than 1 million customers without power as of Friday morning.

To the west of the country, another ice storm caused transportation problems in major Pacific Northwest cities such as Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Washington.

All of this makes driving and flying difficult in some parts of the country.

AAA predicted this week would be the busiest travel season since 2019, with millions looking forward to returning home for Christmas.

As of 11:00 am EST Friday, FFA has placed ground stops at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Denver International Airport, Memphis International Airport, Portland International Airport, and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

Airport closures are in progress at Sioux Falls Regional Airport, MBS International Airport (Freeland, Michigan), Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport, and Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Airport.

The FOX Forecast Center has compiled a list of air travel delays and cancellations across the United States, highlighting some of the worst airports to fly into or out of before Christmas.
